Mr Philippe Vanhuynegem (Belgium) is the Chief of the Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work Branch of the ILO Governance and Tripartism Department since April 2021. Philippe holds a Master’s Degree in Economics and a Special Master’s Degree in Econometrics from the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB). He joined the ILO in 1997 working in West Africa, Latin America and in Headquarters, mainly on social protection and social inclusion programmes. Between 2008 and 2010, he managed a regional programme on cooperative development in East and Southern Africa. From 2011 to 2015, he was the senior enterprise specialist for the Andean Countries, and became the ILO Director of the Sub Region until March 2021. Before joining the ILO, Philippe Vanhuynegem worked for a consultancy firm on banking and telecommunication for the private sector in Europe. Philippe Vanhuynegem started his career as research fellow at the Research Center for Applied Economics of the ULB (DULBEA) and published several studies on social protection, cooperative and other labour related issues.
