1.4: THROUGH COOPERATIVE CULTURE AND SAFEGUARDING CULTURAL HERITAGE
Cerge Servando Perualila, born in 2009, is a student at the Integrated School for Exceptional Children, South Fundidor Molo, Iloilo City. Cerge is a student at a school in Iloilo City in the Philippines where she is also the class president. She, among thousands of students in the country, is part of a culture of “thrift based cooperation” which is often deemed as the first among all types. The culture has been made prevalent by creating and enabling a legal environment (in the 2000s) that mandates the “guardianship” of youth cooperatives by regular credit unions. Cerge, like her fellow co-operators, is realizing the importance of practice in the idea of cooperation.
