1.5: THROUGH PARTNERSHIPS WITH GOVERNMENTS
Ivan Asiimwe is the GEneral Secretary and CEO of the Uganda Cooperative Alliance (UCA). UCA was established in 1961 as the Apex/Umbrella body for over 30,000 cooperatives in Uganda serving over 15 million people, 90% are farmers. Currently, Ivan is the Vice President for Africa on the International Cooperative Agricultural Organization (ICAO) Board. He also is the Board Chairman Cooperative Insurance Company (CIC), and serves on the Board for the Uganda Warehouse Receipt system Authority and the Cooperative College in Kigumba.
Ivan has almost 20 years experience with cooperatives, and he has championed the revival, growth and development of cooperatives, promoted cooperative education and is an advocate for conducive legal and policy regime for cooperatives in Uganda, Africa and globally.
